St. Joseph Hospital to host community health fair at Anthony Medical Center

Free screenings and assistance with health insurance enrollment available Nov. 12

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Friday, Oct. 28, 2016) – St. Joseph Hospital is hosting a community health fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Anthony Medical Center, 5717 S. Anthony Blvd. The fair will provide an opportunity for five free screenings, presentations on health-related topics and one-on-one assistance with health insurance eligibility and enrollment.

Three physicians accepting new patients including Matthew Byers, MD, OB/GYN, Ibad Farooqui, MD, family medicine, and Kanika Jaggi, MD, family medicine, will be present to answer questions and discuss a wide range of health topics. At 9:30 a.m., Dr. Farooqui will give a talk about immunizations; at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Jaggi will address obesity issues; and at 11:30 a.m., dietitian Amanda Langan, RD, CD, will speak about healthy eating.

In addition, kid-friendly activities will be provided by staff from The Birthplace at St. Joseph Hospital.

Free health screenings include:
• Height and weight
• Blood pressure and vital signs
• Lipid panel / cholesterol test (12-hour fasting preferred for most accurate results)
• Blood glucose test (12-hour fasting preferred for most accurate results)
• Depression screening

Representatives from Lutheran Health Network’s Eligibility Screening Services will also be in attendance to explore options and provide assistance at no charge to anyone who is uninsured. Specialists will work with attendees to:
• Review all insurance plan options in the Health Insurance Marketplace
• Determine eligibility for:
     o HIP 2.0, the new Healthy Indiana Plan
     o Medicaid coverage
     o Other financial assistance
• Apply for health insurance coverage
